一块价值连城的玉为主线，引发出四个喜怨哀惧具有内在联系的独立故事。 第一段为独立故事，后三段倒叙，补充第一个故事。 故事一：喜-对爱的肯定 有一对情侣，女的在订婚前，将一个有特殊意义的玉佩交给自己的未婚夫。而一个喜欢这个女人的男人知道玉佩的秘密后，就雇小偷去偷玉佩。小偷成功偷到却又不幸丢失，就弄了块假的交差。而丢玉的未婚夫则想尽各种办法来寻找玉佩，后来无意中拿回了真玉佩。在两人的订婚仪式上，雇人偷玉的男人想抢婚，却因被小偷骗而失败，最终男女主角走到一起。 故事二： 怒-因爱而气 捡到小偷掉的玉佩的女孩遇到了一个失去了女儿的司机，司机像爱女儿般爱她，女孩误以为是爱情，司机很无奈，最后女孩伤心而去，将玉佩埋在了天地里。 故事三：哀-父的悲痛 但玉佩却被一个家里很困难的农民偶然中发现，知道玉佩很值钱后想卖掉为卧病多年的老伴治病，却被不孝的儿子发现，并无知地以低价卖给了一个花言巧语的文物贩子。 故事四：惧-凡人的无奈 文物贩子生活在城市边缘家里很困难的人，骗到玉佩后很高兴，但因为与债主、小流氓等的复杂关系，玉佩最后在混乱中被找玉佩的未婚夫拿走。文物贩子最后仍是一场空。。In his Scottish New Town home, gangling Gregory and his school-friends are starting to find out about girls.
